Magalis Garcia New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 #NYFW

Filed under: #NYFW, Magalis Garcia, New York Fashion Week — ladolcevitainfo @ 10:09 pm

Twice a year we go through a large run of celebrating sightings, the chicest outfits coming to life and of course paps all over the city. What other time is it then the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. I began my fashion week on Friday heading down to the meatpacking district. While by passing the late great Alexander McQueen’s boutique to see the gates down and the white background, I stopped for a few minutes to take in the moment.

I gathered myself and walked down to 441 for the Magalis Garcia showing. Within the first minute of walking into the all black space I fell in love with the 50’s look. When asked what Magalis’ inspiration was, she said “It was an inspiration of street wear. I had problems so I went back to the metropolitan and saw a Matisse painting, and it helped to bring everything together.”

While looking at the clothes you can see she has a wide range for both the young, hip and the mature and chic. From the chocolate sweetheart silk dress embellished with a panel of eagle feathers, to the flowing evening gown in what looks like a rose cobblestone print draped across the body. Regardless of what the inspiration was she made it a splash with her deep dark charcoal colors and bright candy coats.

One of my favorite pieces was the shimmering silver dress with plenty of pleated details put together with a fur chocolate brown and ivory cape.

Garcia’s drapery skills were more than noticeable with extravagant but simplistic evening gowns. Pieces I would definitely love to get my hands on.

The Week that Was!

Filed under: Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, Thank You — ladolcevitainfo @ 6:03 pm

And it’s over just like that! I started on this journey of expressing things which I love and creating a brand in May 2007. After many setbacks- being discouraged, lazy etc., I stepped it up in 2009. La:Dolce:Vita still means the same to me now as it did back then. Each day I am working harder and harder to achieve “the good life.” Through the love and encouragement of my family, friends, other bloggers, my network, and readers I can finally say I am official and proud of the progress that I’ve made. I set out to do Fashion Week on my own, with no machine behind me, just the promise that is La:Dolce:Vita. I attended and blogged about a total of 15 events, shows, and presentations! The lack of sleep, the fustration, the chronic foot pain from running around the city in heels, standing in a line dripping wet in the sweltering heat, or literally weathering the storm, taking off work (no pay), and more, it was all worth it! God truly rewarded me this week. I was able to attend a BET party for Monique where I met industry heavy weights, Debra Lee, Andre Leon Tally, Monique, editors at Essence and more. The blessing was too fold because I was able to attend the Oprah Live in New York show with exclusive VIP seats! A dream come true! This week has been one of the best in my life. I was inspired in every way imaginable. I just want to thank anyone who took a moment to stop by my little corner of the internet. We may not have those bright lights yet like the other streets, but it’s getting there. Thanks everyone from the bottom of my heart, I couldn’t have done it with out you. This is only the beginning. I promise to bring you more diverse content from highlighting new designers, trends, exclusive nyc events and more. Thanks!

Yay! It’s a Celebration!

Good Times!

Kimberly Ovitz’s 2010 Presentation

Filed under: #NYFW, Fashion Week, Kimberly Ovitz, New York Fashion Week — ladolcevitainfo @ 3:53 pm

Sophisticated. Classy. Easy.

It’s obvious that Kimberly Ovitz has her own way of doing things. Her simple and small collection has come to life and stands out from the rest of the new designers in the biz.

Timo Weiland Spring 2010 Men’s and Women’s Presentation

Filed under: #NYFW, Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, Timo Weiland — ladolcevitainfo @ 2:25 pm

Timo Weiland’s debut of the new Spring line for Men and Women is magical. The French inspired collection has tons of detailing and structure. Some of the pieces were form fitted yet feminine and wearable. The women’s satin and flowery mini’s and the men’s timeless trenches, are great pieces that can be worn by any fashionista.

Christian Cota Spring 2010 Presentation

This had to be one of the biggest events during NYFW. Considering Leighton Meester wore one of his frocks for the MTV VMA’s I expected to see her there, but a las my bubble was popped. Anywho there were a lot of other cool celebs in tow including Oprah Winfrey’s interior designer, Nate Berkus, Lauren Santo Domingo who I think styled the show, jewelry designer and New York socialite Genevieve Jones, singer Amerie (2nd sighting of the week!) and Bev Smith among others. The models were placed on indidual moss pads in front a marine blue background. The models were so gorgeous resembling beautiful mermaids with hair half up and pulled back falling into tousled waves and a bright red pout. Please check the pictures below.

Bourgeoisie Shoetique Present "Suite Addiction"

This lovely event showcasing Spring 2010′s hottest and most coveted shoes was coordinated by the beautiful Nicole Garner of the Garner Circle Public Relations. The event took place on Monday at 5pm in the Pent House suite of the Royalton Hotel. It was very grand and by appointment only. European shoe collections on display included Giuseppe Zanotti, Givency, Goodman, Emilio Pucci, DSQUARED2, Bracher Emden, Casadei, Stuart Weitzman and more. As you already know, when ever  fly, exclusive shoes are in the vicinity, today’s hottest stars are sure to follow. The invited celebrity guest included Eva Marcille, Chrisette Michele, Melyssa Ford, Co Co, Shaquille O’Neal’s wife Shaunie O’Neal, and Harlem Heights cast members, Brianna and Brooke. I had to leave early to catch some other FW happenings but I got a chance to catch up with the beautiful Brianna and Brooke. Very down to earth ladies. Check out the pictures below.

Those black Casadei pumps with the crystallized heel have my name all over them! Hot! Thanks for having La:Dolce:Vita Nicole!

Barbara Tfank Spring 2010 Presentation

Filed under: #NYFW, Adele, Barbara Tfank, Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week — ladolcevitainfo @ 3:42 pm

I really enjoyed Barbara Tfank. The presentation took place on the 8th floor in Milk Studios. Milk Studios is beautiful! The set up was so fun! The models presenting the garments on a photo shoot set with a white background, while bloggers, reporters, buyers, and others played photographer. The white background was genius because it forced you to pay attention to the clothes. The collection was demure, sophisticated and lady like. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw this collection on our first lady, Michelle Obama closet. I was also excited to see that UK singer, Adele there as one of the invited guest. Please check out the pictures and video below.

Leifsdottir Spring 2010 Presentation

Filed under: #NYFW, Amerie, Fashion Week, Leifsdottir, New York Fashion Week — ladolcevitainfo @ 2:24 pm

The Leifsdottir Spring 2010 Presentation was nothing short of a tropical island fantasy. Guest entering the venue were greeted by a scene straight from Gilligan’s Island. The models sauntered the room taking breaks to pose for photographers. It was a unique set up and a great way to thoroughly examine the garments. This collection is perfect for Spring. Very fun, playful, girlie and whimsical. I love the fabrics, design, and colors of all the pieces. This collection was developed under the Anthropologie brand. Notable guest include R&B singer, Amerie, the girl about town Ms. Bev Smith, Dani from ANTM and others. It was a grand event and I had a really great time. Please check out the pics below!

Zang Toi Spring 2010 Runway Show

Filed under: #NYFW, Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, Zang Toi — ladolcevitainfo @ 5:11 am

The Zang Toi runway show took place in the designer’s showroom and was a rather cozy and intimate affair. The audience sat on opposites sides of the room with a descending second level stair case dropping to the middle of the floor which served as the main runway. I was expecting to see lots of Oriental influences from the designer, but I was pleasantly suprised to see the show take on a Spanish, Zoro-like motif. It was great! The models had their hair pulled back, with sharp darkened eyebrows and a pop of red on the lip. To compliment the theme, the collection consist of shiny black beading on skirts and jackets, sheer tops, long trenches, mini’s, bubble sleeves and roomy wide leg pants. The collection was very sophisticated and could be worn by women of any age. Zang Toi displayed lots of color from bright red, lime green, pink, to deep navy and black. My favorite piece shown was a lime green tube mini with cascading black beading along the hem. Also, I was so happy to see one of my favorite black models Ubah Hussan (the face of Ralph Lauren) walk in the show. Please click here to view a post I did on her a few months back. She is such a beautiful person and as serious as the show was meant to be, she couldn’t hide that gorgeous smile.

On another note, I learned just how small the blogging community really is. I was literally seated a few chairs down from Wendy Brandes, jewelry designer and fashion blogger who I also follow on twitter. After the show I hopped on twitter to search the show for other people who were there. I came across Wendy Brandes‘ funny blog post about the show and saw a picture of myself in the background. lol..

P.S. Please follow me on twitter for more updates at twitter.com/LaDolceVitaInfo :) All in all, it was a breath of fresh air, a return to sophistication, and a much needed break from the rocker/hipster takeover. Please see more pictures below and a video at the end of the post. #NYFW
